Most of us consider ourselves to be nonjudgemental, non racist, and, if asked, would probably deny any sort of existential racism. When people ask me if I'm racist, I say, yes, of course. I try not to be but being raised in a small town of white people from Arkansas, how could I not be racist? We are what we learn and even if your parents were liberal white people, there is inherent racism in our dna. Like it or not. To overcome this "racism," we must first be aware that we are racist. It's ok. You can be racist without penalty but you must strive to overcome.
I have a good friend. She is a warm, loving, white person who would punch you in the face if you told her she was racist. Even so, when I mentioned I needed a huge pile of garbage removed from my driveway, she suggested a company that looked good. "They're Mexicans," she said raising her voice. I didn't say anything, just nodded my head.
She will say there was no mal intent involved, that it was just a way of saying they do good work. I would probably say the same. It's more subconscious, though. Her father was racist. When he was alive, I met him and mentioned, jokingly, that Marshawn Lync, of the Seattle Seahawks, very black and big, was my nephew. His reply was a muttered, "Fuckin' niggers." I had no idea of his racist background as I had just met him. A few weeks after that meeting, he died. The joke was I killed him mentioning my blood relationship with a pro football player.
She grew up listening to her dad's vitriol on black people. Our formative years are the important ones and we learn most of what we know about behavior during those years. Even if you grow up to be a liberal white privilege person, you still have the foundation of childhood to work with.
If you are a white, of European descent person, take a look inside. Ask yourself about it. What kind of answer do you give? Think about that answer. Ask it again. And listen to the answer.
The Lament of White Privilege

Welcome to Post #1
Those of us of European ancestry, who came to this continent under the guise of Manifest Destiny, have been unusually feisty as of late. Unable to continue a sense of domineering without hue and cry from everyone else, white people continue to bloviate about the loss of their "privilege" under the guise of political correctness.
Remember when there were only white people at Costco?
